While metal buildings are inherently durable and weather-resistant, a few simple preparations before the cold season ensure everything stays in top shape. Pre-Winter Checklist 1. Inspect and Clean Gutters Clear gutters and downspouts of leaves, twigs, and debris from fall. Clogged gutters cause water to back up, freeze, and create ice dams that can damage panels and trim. Make sure downspouts direct water away from the foundation. 2. Check Weather Seals Inspect the rubber seals around roll-up doors, walk-in doors, and windows. Look for cracks, gaps, or deterioration that could let cold air and moisture inside. Replace any worn seals before winter arrives. 3. Tighten Fasteners Walk around the building and check all visible screws and bolts. Thermal expansion and contraction throughout the year can loosen connections. Tighten any loose fasteners and replace missing ones. Pay special attention to trim and ridge cap fasteners, which are most exposed to weather. 4.
